Producing quality for commercial cattlemen...

About Us

BC Angus is a registered Black Angus herd located in Adair, Iowa. BC Angus is a collaborative partnership between Blair Carney and Doug Borkowski.

Blair & Erin Carney
Following graduation from Iowa State University in 2008 with an agriculture degree, Blair, returned home to continue the family farming legacy. With his grandfather ready to retire Blair was fortunate enough to take over his portion of the operation.

After settling as a fourth generation farmer, Blair knew he had to expand the operation. In 2009, Blair received the opportunity to expand by purchasing 80 registered Angus cows from a local producer looking to scale back.

Over the past few years Blair and now wife Erin, have taken great strides to improve their Angus herd.  Today their herd is comprised of registered Angus females and commercial cows. Along with increasing the number of Angus herd, Blair and Erin have also bred their females to optimize performance that will ultimately maximize your bottom line.

When not attending to the Angus herd Blair and Erin, are also actively involved in the family row crop operation.  We encourage and welcome everyone to visit the farm.

Blair cannot thank Doug Borkowski enough, good friend and now business partner, for sparking his interest in the Angus Industry.

Borkowski Angus Farm (BAF)

Merle Borkowski
A Historic Herd (50 years) recognized by the American Angus Association in 2013. BAF was founded by Merle and Virginia Borkowski in 1963 with the purchase of the first registered female, "Gina Rowley's Blackcap" from Hopley Angus, Atlantic, Iowa. Over the years, cattle have been sourced from different herds with some of the key purchases coming from herds like Houghton Angus and from SydGen more recently. Borkowski Angus Farm was an early implementer of using the Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR). AI was a tool first used in the BAF herd in the early 70's. Borkowski Angus Farm continues to use the latest technologies such as Genomic testing for better predictability of the top genetics in the herd.  Borkowski Angus Farm genetics have been purchased by breeders throughout the Midwest.

With the passing of Merle Borkowski in 2007, ownership of Borkowski Angus Farm went to Doug Borkowski who is the current owner and operator. Doug had learned from his father, Merle, the joys of being in the Angus business. Borkowski Angus Farm is not a large herd, but has focused on quality genetics for over 50 years.

An exciting development happened in 2008 when Carney Angus and Borkowski Angus Farm started working together to provide the best genetics possible. The next year was the start of a collaborative embryo transfer program. Probably the most exciting purchase for this joint venture happened in Feb. 2011 with the purchase of SydGen Anita 8611 at the Missouri Angus Futurity. Notable offspring from this great cow family include SydGen Black Pearl, BCA Single Malt and SydGen Big medicine. SydGen Anita 8611 has also produced other excellent bulls and females that are the foundation of BC Angus.

It is a joy for me to work with Blair and Erin Carney.
